Maureen Watson Time line

1931 - Born in Rockhampton in central Queensland
1952 - married Harold Bayles
1970 - moved to Brisbane with her family
1982 - Published her first collection of stories and poems, Black Reflections , forefront of Aboriginal protests against the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane
1996 - awarded the Australia Council Red Ochre award,
received the inaugural United Nations Association Global Leadership Prize

Turning points and Achievements

Turning points
  • He became chief of his local tribe after his father died
  • Whilst at university Nelson Mandela became increasingly aware of the unjust nature of South African Societer
  • long with his good friend and comrade Oliver Tambo was expelled from Fort Hare for organising a student strike
  • Mandela had to resign from the ANC and work underground
  •  Sharpeville massacre of 63 black South African’s changed the
  • Mandela had been arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment in the notorious Robben Island prison
  • Although negotiations were painfully slow and difficult, they eventually led to Mandela’s release in 1990
  • Nelson Mandela lost his eldest son because of HIV diseas 






Achievements
  • In 1944 Mandela helped found the ANC Youth League, whose Programme of Action was adopted by the ANC in 1949
  • In 1952 finish his degree and qualified as a Lawyer
  • In 1993 Nelson Mandela was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize jointly F.W DeKLerK
  • Mandela and Tambo opened the first Black Law firm in South Africa
  • Conducting their own defence they eventually proved to be victorious
  •  He helped to keep other Men’s spirits high
  • Nelson Mandela was inaugurated as the first democratically elected State President of South Africa on and was President until June 1999.
  • He received many prestigious awards

1944- helped found the ANC Youth League
1952-Mandela and Tambo opened the first Black Law firm in South Africa,Defiance Campaign and later acts of sabotage
1962- arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment in the notorious Robben Island prison.

1993-awarded the Nobel peace prize jointly with F. W De Klerk
1994-President of Afric
1999-retired as president
2013-died

Fred Hollows time line


1929  - was  born in New Zealand
1960  - Got job in Australia in Sydney
1965  -  Head of the Eye Department at a Sydney Hospital
1970  - Helped eye disease in Aboriginal Australians
1980 - Traveled all over the world to help set up eye health programs
1986 -  Fred knew he wouldn't live to see all his idea happen
1993  - died at home because of cancer
